Birds Action in the SurfThe time has arrived once again for the annual migration of bait fish back to the warmer southern waters of South America. For the Texas Coast, this usualy translates into swarms of bait in the surf and in turn, swarms of predators. This means a good chance for fast paced, heart pounding fishing action.
On the weekend of September 29-30, the Alamo Fly Fishers will venture to the Padre Island National Seashore in search of prime feeding action. Favorite spots in the past have been Big Shell, Yarborough Pass and (for the brave of heart) the Mansfield Jetties. When fishing the surf, I am reminded of Forest Gump's historical statement..."You never know what your gonna get!" Common catches include redfish, trout, ladyfish, jacks and whiting. There are typically opportunities on each outing to hook into some of the other green water monsters and even some more exotic fish. Join the club for an educational outing on how to spot prime fishing areas along the surf and the opportunity for your best fishing adventure this year.
Come to the September 18th Chapter Meeting to sign up and ask questions of those who have made the trek before.
