(Carmine’s Restaurant – Phil Sprio Chef/Owner)
PLEASE NOTE!!! The January meeting will NOT be at our regular location! It will be at Carmine's Restaurant.
As has been a tradition with the Alamo Fly Fishers, our January meeting will be a fabulous cooking demonstration for our members to learn yet another tasty way to prepare our latest catch. After a fun filled and excellent presentation from last year's meeting, we will once again be entertained and enlightened by owner and chef Phil Sprio at Carmine's restaurant in Schertz. This is always a popular meeting and a great "couples" event, filled with comraderie and conversation. This January's meeting will be held at Carmine’s on Tuesday January 15th starting at 7:00pm.""
Phil Sprio is the chef and owner of Carmine's, an excellent Italian restaurant opened in Schertz a couple of years ago. Carmine’s is already laid out well to host such an event, with views to the kitchen from the dining area, and Phil has let us into the ktchen in the past to watch his talented chefs prepare an appetizer and an entrée. When you meet Phil Spiro, you will realize he is not originally from Texas. His family is from Albany, New York. Phil and his wife are both attorneys, and he has no formal culinary training, but he comes from a family of cooks. Phil’s brother, Carmine, still has the original restaurant in Albany. Carmine’s offers a regular menu of lunch and dinner items, but also has a special selection of items from the “chef’s table” that changes daily. Phil says he has organized an eclectic group of chefs for his kitchen, and is proud of the unique food taste that he has brought and maintained from New York. Last year, Phil demonstrated an exquisite entree featuring a Texas favorite, Redfish. It should be a fun and interesting meeting as always – something a little different from what we usually do.
We are still working out the details of the cooking demonstration, but expect it will be similar to last year, with one exception. We are hoping to work things out so that everyone in the club who wants to will be able to enjoy their own dish of the featured entrée rather than just a taste like last year. The specifics are still being discussed, but expect that the dinner will be at a reasonable cost of not more than $15 per person. There will also be a cash bar for anyone wanting a drink with their meal.
Please help us spread the word. Our January AFF meeting will NOT be held at the Alamo Heights Presbyterian Church as it typically is. We will meet at Carmine’s Restaurant in Schertz.
